ABSTRACT

On publically reported data of type A H1N1 flu, pro. Gu Zhishan expounds the syndrome features of the disease with "the Five Circuit Phases and the Six Atomospheric Influence" theory, viewing that the year’s human infected with type A H1N1 flu has the key factor of "wetness" in mechanism, putting forward its TCM treatment principle and prevention plan.

ABSTRACT

Exploring the source of epidemic extremity mouth disease happened in Fuyang City,Anhui Province in China with Five-elements and Six-nature theories,it views that it is very common to have much pox infectious diseases, which is closely related with abnormal climate of the year. The extremity mouth disease is similar to measles and rash, which is common in history, they have same points in mechanism and treatment principle;when breaking out in the rage, they are generally called "pestilence rash".TCM has rich experience in treatment and prevention of it.It is suggested here: the SARS treated with TCM shows the value and key function of TCM intervening for emergency public health accidents,we shall sooner bring TCM into related regulations answering for emergency public health accidents, set up a prevention and treatment system of infections fully embodying TCM feature and advantage, combining with western medicine.

ABSTRACT

The attack of SARS completely confirms the theory of “pestilence every 3 years”in the doctrine on five elements’ motion and six kinds of natural factors;the said doctrine has great guiding meaning to the clinical treatment of SARS by differentiating by signs and symptoms. For the subject of “study on applying the theory of five elements’motion and six kinds of natural factors to forecast the pestilence”,the pestilence situation is calculated for almost 2 years, the result is basically in accordance with the reality. The practice proves that while applying the theory, the method of multi-factors composition and analysis from dynamic change can make more correct forecast result.

ABSTRACT

To discuss the essence of six meridians, the key point is the comprehension of three yin and three yang.Three yin and three yang describes the six natural states of re-division and reunion of yin and yang. The opening, closing and pivot of three yin and three yang determine the property and characteristic of each Meridian. It is necessary to understand three yin and three yang by the theory of five movements and six qi as the comprehension of different states in space-time,azimuth and yin-yang qi.If we discuss six meridians from the view of the theory of five movements and six qi,most of the previous puzzles could be solved reasonably. The dynamic space-time variations among three yin and three yang is well-ordered.Syndrome-differentiation according to the theory of three yin and three yang could well reflex the dynamic space-time characteristics of the whole changes of internal and external environments when disease happens. The theory of six meridians must be mentioned as lecturing Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases(Shanhan Lun),and the syndrome-differentiation of the six meridians can not be abolished.

ABSTRACT

Doctrine of five evolutive phases and six climatic factors is a knowledge that the ancients used to discuss seasonal rules of natural changes and its effects on diseases. SARS broke out in 2003 revealed the effects of five evolutive phases and six climatic factors on diseases. According to Plain Questions (SuWen), the theory of “Incubative pathogen transformed into pestilent evils in three years time” can definitely foresee the happening of “Metal pestilence (Jin Yi)” ——the extensive prevalence of pulmonary epidemic disease between 2002 and 2003. The accuracy of the forecast was unthinkable. The doctrine accurately estimated the climax and subsidising time of SARS and whether the disease would recrudesce in the next half year or not in 2003. It shows that the doctrine had been summarized by practical observation for thousands of years and can provide important reference to ensure the occuring and subsidising time of pestilent diseases. The doctrine can also provide reference for the analysis of pathogenesis and syndromes of SARS and its therapeutic principles. From the law of the doctrine , the “dry” and “heat” evils engendered by the failure of firmness and softness in assisting each other in GengChen year were incubative pathogens. So the syndrome of internal lung heat and dryness could be seen at the very beginning, and the invasion was urgent. Disorder of ascending and descending in Guiwei year and the “cold” and “damp” evils induced by “several cold rains” resulted in the seasonal qi. Stimulation of the incubative pathogen by pestilent seasonal qi, stagnation of dry and heat evils inside the body, exuberance of cold and damp evils outside, as well as the interaction of incubative pathogen and seasonal qi resulted in the characters of pathogenesis and syndrome of SARS with manifestation of interior dryness and external dampness as well as interior heat and external cold. It is also considered that if one was affected by exopathogens suddenly presented by extreme fatigue, mostly it was incubative dryness incurred the impairment of the lung. So the extreme fatigue occurring in the early stage of SARS is an important index of impairment of the lung induced by incubative dryness. The occurring of SARS is helpful in learning the signs of incubative drynessin the lung meridian of Hand Taiyin. Predecessors hadn't systemicly discussed the therapeutic principle for incubative dryness. So how to deal the contradiction between moistening dryness and resolving dampness was the key problem. Finally, sporadic cases of SARS occurring in 2004 were analyzed by the doctrine of five evolutive phases and six climatic factors. It was pointed out that the infective power and biological characteristics of SARS virus can change with seasons. So the doctrine of five evolutive phases and six climatic factors must be combined according to specific time and places when carrying out the work plan for the prevention and treatment of SARS and other epidemic diseases.
